Best Walking Trails & Spots in Western Sydney

When people think of places to walk that are west of Sydney’s CBD, they often think of the Blue Mountains. While the Blue Mountains is absolutely stunning and out of this world, it is a while away from Sydney CBD, and it is technically not part of Sydney.

But if you don’t have the time or energy to venture so far, thankfully there are plenty of walks in Western Sydney! Here are a few of our favourites:

  1. Sydney Olympic Park

What can we say? This one’s a classic! Not only are there lots of other sports you can do here (fancy an archery session, anyone?), but there’s also 430 hectares of parkland here for you to stroll through. A word of warning though: even though this place is huge, it gets crowded on the weekends. I guess this is understandable as it’s super close to the city and has all kinds of public transportation options available – even a ferry!

  • Western Sydney Parklands

Covering 5280 hectares and stretching over 27km, Western Sydney Parklands is home to more than 60km of tracks and trails! And what’s a huge bonus is that you are bound to find a little spot for yourself, as it’s (for some reason) a bit of a secret. Well… Too bad we’ve just given you this secret – it’s just too good to not share it!

  • The Bay Run

This is an easy and flat 7km walk around Iron Cove, which takes you through the suburbs of Rozelle, Lilyfield, Haberfield, Five Dock, and Drummoyne in Sydney’s Inner-West. There are also lots of great restaurants and coffee shops along your walk to fuel you up while you’re soaking in the waterside scenery!

  • Parramatta Park

There’s a 3.2km loop for you to walk here that connects the Parramatta River! There are a few hills here though, so you’d better be ready to get your legs to work! Remember to look up, as you’re likely gonna run into some cockatoos and corellas here, aka, your friendly supporters.

  • Dame Eadith Walker Estate

This is a personal favourite of mine as it’s always quiet here! It’s one of those spots where you can forget that you’re in the middle of an urban area as there are so many large trees around you! Make sure you stop along your walk to admire the variety of plants they have!
